Used by universities, research institutions, and companies, JoVE provides thousands of protocol videos and educational products (JoVE Journal, JoVE Science Education, JoVE Core, JoVE Lab Manual, etc. ) to support research reproducibility and science teaching across life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, and related fields.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to build and maintain user experience, accessibility, and development feasibility across websites, applications, and supporting digital spaces. • Design and implement solutions for presenting data and content on websites, mobile apps, and other platforms. • Apply JoVE brand standards cohesively across digital properties and third-party platforms. • Stay current with web design and development standards and trends. • Contribute to engineering excellence, including automated unit testing. • Collaborate with stakeholders and developers on project design, implementation, standards, and reusable code. • Complete tasks independently and meet requirements and deadlines. • Explain and whiteboard complex technical issues for audiences with varying technical expertise. • Debug software components and identify defects for remediation. • Assist with automating deployments to development and other environments.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building scalable, data-driven backend systems and APIs. • At least 2 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading and mentoring engineering teams. • Strong proficiency in server-side programming with Node.js. • Familiarity with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and CSS. • Strong understanding of system design, data architecture, and microservices or modular monoliths. • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services and external SDKs. • Experience with event-driven systems, asynchronous processing, and message queues such as Kafka, SNS/SQS, or RabbitMQ. • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis, including query optimization and complex data modeling. • Experience with cloud-native AWS architecture, including serverless, ECS/Fargate, Lambda, S3, and CloudFormation, or equivalent platforms. • Understanding and implementation of SOLID and DRY software design principles in SaaS and multi-tenant application development. • Experience with Agile Scrum and related collaboration and issue-tracking tools such as JIRA or Rally. • Experience in a CI/CD model, including GitHub and CI pipeline automation tools. • Ability to triage and resolve incidents and lead incident investigations.
