📋 Description

• Define and drive the technical vision for the Insurance Product Configuration & Enrollment Platform Core • Align team technical strategy with Bestow's platform strategy and business objectives • Promote configuration-driven repeatability over bespoke partner work • Provide architectural guidance across the configuration layer, enrollment workflow engine, and event-sourced domain services • Lead cross-team initiatives involving teams outside the reporting structure • Own and resolve interfaces and ownership ambiguities between dependent teams • Represent Bestow with carrier partners, vendors, and technology companies in technical due diligence and vendor negotiations • Evaluate emerging technologies for platform adoption • Foster technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning • Own delivery commitments to carrier partners, including UAT handoff dates, and report status to executive leadership • Partner with Product, Delivery Management, Underwriting, and Compliance to identify requirements and dependencies • Own incident posture, root-cause analysis, systemic incident analysis, and follow-up actions • Ensure service-owning teams operate their services and supporting infrastructure • Build scalable testing strategies for rules and configuration • Champion data and metrics for technical decisions and system health • Translate business requirements and partner roadmaps into technical strategies and staffing plans • Lead, mentor, and grow Engineering Managers and their leadership bench • Build high-performing teams with ownership, accountability, and psychological safety • Run performance management, career ladders, scorecards, calibration, feedback, and growth plans • Maintain bench depth and knowledge redundancy • Act as hiring manager and own recruiting funnels and hiring cadence • Manage contractor and vendor partners • Establish effective engineering processes and ceremonies • Direct AI-augmented development adoption and strategy • Drive adoption of Claude Code, Claude Tag, GitHub Copilot, and AIDLC practices • Establish standards for AI-generated code, testing, and documentation • Partner with Security, IT, and Compliance on safe AI tooling controls • Coach engineers and managers on AI competencies • Build self-serve knowledge resources using AI

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience • 8+ years of professional software development experience • 5+ years of progressive engineering management experience, including managing managers • Experience leading 2–3 Engineering Managers and roughly 20–30 engineers across multiple teams • Ability to design, build, and operate distributed systems and microservices architectures at scale • Experience with event-driven and event-sourced designs • Extensive experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including schema design, data modeling, and query performance • Strong background in Golang and/or Python backend services • Experience with API design using gRPC and REST • Experience with asynchronous messaging patterns • Recently transformed at least one team to fully embrace agentic engineering • Deep expertise across the software development lifecycle • Ability to reason about frontend composition, data platforms, and infrastructure • Ability to contribute changes to teams' codebases and engage in architectural decisions • Advocacy for automated testing and test-driven development • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes • Ability to define and track key metrics, accountability, committed dates, and SLAs • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple teams and partner commitments • Ability to attract, hire, mentor, and retain engineering talent • Excellent written and verbal communication • Life insurance, annuities, or regulated-industry experience is a strong plus • Experience delivering implementations for enterprise or carrier partners under contractual dates is a strong plus • Must reside in the contiguous 48 United States • Must address U.S. employment eligibility and visa sponsorship requirements
