📋 Description

• Lead a team of 8–12 engineers • Own hiring, growth, performance, retention, and delivery • Help the team adopt Brandt's engineering standards and improve planning, building, and shipping practices • Decide how the team applies the Brandt Operating Model, including planning rhythm, review practices, and AI workflow usage • Own hiring decisions within Brandt's structured process • Shape the continuously improving engineering operating model with peer Engineering Managers • Maintain and manage the team's technical debt backlog with Tech Leads • Plan upkeep alongside feature work, make deferred-maintenance costs visible, and escalate repeated postponement • Contribute to the Tech Lead's review and help shape company-wide engineering standards with the Chief Engineer • Build predictable delivery through small-batch planning, early risk surfacing, and scope renegotiation • Design work-verification processes so review and testing keep pace with output • Maintain regular 1:1s, timely feedback, development plans, and fair performance management • Adopt and improve Brandt's delivery standards • Hold engineers accountable for quality • Sponsor engineers for promotions, specialties, and stretch roles • Improve delivery metrics and challenge metrics that no longer reflect reality • Use AI throughout planning, development, testing, and delivery while maintaining accountability for released work • Measure success through team-level throughput, quality, reliability, hiring, retention, and engineer growth outcomes

🎯 Requirements

• Must be US Citizen or Green Card holder • Experience leading a team near 8–12 engineers while owning both people management and delivery commitments • Ability to identify the real constraint in a delivery system, explain the evidence, and acknowledge when an assessment was wrong • Experience paying down deferred maintenance while continuing to ship • Experience changing how a team works and explaining results, tradeoffs, and negative outcomes • Hands-on experience with agentic development workflows • Evidence of where AI helps and where it does not, including catching plausible but incorrect AI-generated work and explaining subsequent changes • Ability to describe a recent change of mind about where AI belongs in engineering work • Ability to write actionable documentation, give timely feedback, and sponsor growth • Careful commitment-making and early risk communication • Helpful: experience leading delivery-model changes such as agile transformation, platform migration, or shift to engineer-owned quality • Helpful: experience across more than one product domain or business line • Helpful: experience with regulated, procurement-driven, or public-sector customers • No specific years of experience or degree required; evidence of the stated behaviors is valued
