📋 Description

• Design, build, and deploy robust backend services, data pipelines, and highly available APIs • Own the full path data takes through the platform • Prototype quickly to test hypotheses and decide what to rework or discard • Harden validated prototypes for enterprise-scale adoption • Make architectural decisions with limited precedent and resolve weak points proactively • Flex into DevOps and SRE work as needed • Support developer experience for AI-empowered contributors from non-engineering backgrounds • Build modules and guardrails that enable safe shipping and maintenance of backend capabilities • Set technical direction and backend engineering standards • Mentor engineers and drive initiatives spanning multiple services, pipelines, and teams

🎯 Requirements

• Extensive professional experience as a backend engineer, with a track record of operating at staff level and setting technical direction with minimal oversight • Vertical ownership from database schema through API and integration tests to production monitoring • Experience shipping high-risk changes with a rollback path and test plan, and coordinating with stakeholders to mitigate disruptions • Infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, and incident response experience • Daily use of agentic engineering tools and experience deploying AI-augmented software systems to production • Track record of building shared packages, tooling, and documentation • Effective collaboration with product managers, scientists, and customer-facing teams • Genuine interest in carbon, climate strategy, and energy is a strong plus • Bonus: Experience in regulated environments such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2 • Bonus: Production AI-augmented systems experience, including durable execution for long-running agents, quantified reliability evaluations, identity and scoped permissions in agent tool calls, and prompt-injection defense
