📋 Description

• Design protection schemes for T&D substations, data centers, industrial, and BESS applications, including one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, and relay settings • Lead local or remote design teams developing panel and interconnect wiring, panel layouts, and elevations • Evaluate interoperability, control features, and communication/protocol aspects of IED protection relays • Integrate SCADA, cybersecurity, telecom, protection, control, and monitoring systems • Apply IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture to substations • Coordinate with SCADA, physical, and control design engineers on system integration • Manage project specifications, cost control, and schedule objectives • Interface with lead engineers, project engineers, designers, draftsmen, project managers, sourcing, and support organizations • Review load flow, fault, relay coordination, and transient studies • Train end-users on protection and control system theory, operation, and maintenance • Lead or support factory acceptance testing and site testing and commissioning • Develop outage, cut-over, and testing procedures • Define processes, perform root cause analyses, implement corrective actions, and validate process control • Support quality initiatives, including ISO9002-related activities • Develop proposals, technical specifications, design-hour and material estimates, vendor quotations, clarifications, exceptions, technical responses, and validations • Potentially serve as project engineer for small- to medium-sized, secondary-engineering-focused projects • Continuously update technical knowledge in response to grid-transition needs

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar degree from an accredited university • Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering • Minimum 3 years’ experience in protection and controls engineering for substations or power generation • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including internationally • Ability to comply with company travel and tax policies • Legally authorized to work in the United States • Extensive experience in protective relaying coordination and practices • Understanding of circuit breakers, fuses, circuit switchers, transformers, shunt reactors, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, HVDC, and FACTS systems • Fluent in English • Experience in technical problem solving • Mastery of secondary engineering discipline processes, tools, and technical aspects • P.E. License or EIT with willingness to pursue and acquire P.E. certification, or P.Eng. or willingness to acquire certification • Strong influencing, relationship-building, presentation, and complex-message communication skills • Demonstrated ownership, accountability, judgment, decision-making, and passion for the functional role
