📋 Description

• Design, build, and evolve high-performance, real-time pricing systems supporting critical lending decisions across Upstart products • Own complex engineering projects from technical design through delivery, balancing scalability, reliability, correctness, and iteration speed • Partner with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate modeling and business requirements into reliable software solutions • Implement architectural improvements to increase flexibility, maintainability, observability, and resilience of pricing services • Contribute to technical standards for system design, testing, monitoring, and operational excellence • Support engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing • Build scalable, reliable systems that power pricing decisions for Upstart’s AI lending marketplace

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or its equivalent, plus 4 years of software engineering experience • Production software development experience in Python and Java, Kotlin, or another strongly typed programming language • Experience designing, building, and operating scalable APIs, distributed systems, or microservices in AWS, GCP, or another cloud environment • Experience owning technical design and delivery of complex software projects from development through production • Experience building production systems with scalability, latency, reliability, or correctness requirements • Knowledge of fintech, financial systems, financial mathematics, statistics, machine learning platforms, or decisioning systems • Experience with business-critical systems affecting revenue, profitability, risk, or core product outcomes • Experience with distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, platform engineering, CI/CD, or infrastructure as code • Experience partnering with data science and product teams to productionize models, decisioning logic, or experimentation capabilities
