• Develop and execute the enterprise strategy for chemical safety and food toxicology • Establish standards, policies, risk-based decision criteria, and technical governance • Serve as the company’s subject matter expert for toxicological risk assessment, chemical hazard evaluation, exposure assessment, and scientific literature interpretation • Provide chemical safety review and approval for ingredients and food contact materials • Partner with internal and external laboratories to guide testing strategies, method selection, data interpretation, proficiency expectations, priorities, and escalations • Lead technical responses to chemical safety incidents, supplier non-conformance, consumer and customer inquiries, regulatory requests, and other escalations • Monitor scientific, regulatory, consumer, customer, NGO, and legislative trends • Develop risk mitigation plans, business position recommendations, communication materials, and escalation summaries for senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders • Represent Campbell’s in external scientific organizations, trade associations, technical panels, and regulatory forums • Build internal capability through training, coaching, and cross-functional education • Establish metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms for chemical safety risks, program effectiveness, incident trends, laboratory performance, and food safety priorities • Standardize laboratory testing equipment and methods across the manufacturing network as applicable • Operate as an enterprise-level technical authority safeguarding consumer safety, regulatory compliance, innovation timelines, and business continuity • Evaluate complex scientific and regulatory information and balance scientific judgment, regulatory expectations, operational feasibility, consumer trust, and business continuity • Provide rapid technical support for critical incidents, recalls, regulatory inquiries, consumer escalations, customer concerns, and supplier disruptions, including outside normal business hours when needed • Influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams without always having direct authority • Report into VP Food Safety Quality
• Bachelor's Degree • 15+ years of progressive experience in food, beverage, consumer packaged goods, ingredient, packaging, or related technical environments • Demonstrated leadership in chemical safety, food toxicology, ingredient risk assessment, analytical chemistry, food contact materials, contaminant evaluation, regulatory toxicology, or related food safety disciplines • Experience leading technical governance, enterprise standards, cross-functional risk decisions, external laboratory strategies, incident response, and regulatory or customer-facing technical matters • Experience interfacing directly with FDA, USDA, EPA, state agencies, international regulatory bodies, or customer regulatory and food safety teams • Experience participating in or leading industry association panels, scientific working groups, or external advisory forums such as GMA/CBA, IAFNS, AOAC, FARRP, Codex-related forums, or other specialized technical organizations • Experience with food manufacturing environments, supplier quality systems, co-manufacturers, ingredient commercialization, food packaging, external laboratories, and analytical chemistry program oversight • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and analytical equipment including GC/MS, LC/QTOF, and ICPMS • Experience managing and developing technical teams • Strong working knowledge of U.S. and global food regulatory frameworks and standards relevant to finished products, ingredients, additives, contaminants, GRAS, food contact materials, packaging, Codex, FDA, USDA, EPA, state-level requirements, and customer expectations • Strong understanding of analytical chemistry methods, laboratory operations, data quality, method validation, uncertainty, exposure calculations, toxicological thresholds, and interpretation of testing results • Deep expertise in food-relevant chemical hazards, including pesticides, heavy metals, acrylamide, mycotoxins, allergens at chemical safety interfaces, process contaminants, packaging migrants, food additives, colors, flavors, preservatives, and emerging contaminants • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Strong collaboration, influencing, and relationship-building skills • Strong program management, change management, prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills • Ph.D. in Toxicology, Food Toxicology, Food Science, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or related scientific discipline strongly preferred • Board certification by the American Board of Toxicology or equivalent specialized toxicology credential preferred • Certifications or training in HACCP, PCQI, Lead Auditor, ASQ, Lean Six Sigma, risk assessment, regulatory science, or related technical disciplines preferred
