📋 Description

• Serve as technical lead on strategic projects assigned by the CTO, owning technical design, delivery plans, and outcomes • Move across unfamiliar systems, teams, and business units, writing code on difficult components and driving projects from idea to production • Coordinate engineers across multiple teams, unblock dependencies, and make technical decisions • Report project status, risks, and tradeoffs clearly and early to the CTO • Architect scalable, data-driven systems processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data • Plan system improvements on a 12+ month horizon • Drive interoperability through modular design, reusable components, and clean internal and external integrations • Introduce new technology, including agentic development practices, while maintaining reliability and maintainability • Solve complex challenges involving system performance, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, and distributed services • Own major technical decisions and collaborate with the Chief Architect and engineering and product leaders • Raise engineering standards and share lessons with the architecture team • Serve as senior escalation point for critical incidents, performance bottlenecks, and technical tradeoffs • Act as senior technical counterpart to enterprise customers, OEM partners, and internal stakeholders • Lead cross-organization technical discussions to resolve dependencies and align priorities • Mentor Principal Engineers, Staff Engineers, and tech leads • Ship code in the core platform, learn SRM architecture, and create delivery plans for assigned projects • Participate in an architecture discussion, live agentic build exercise, and design document or decision-record review during hiring

🎯 Requirements

• 15 or more years of software engineering experience • At least 5 years at principal level or equivalent leading complex, cross-team technical initiatives through to delivery • Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and API design with OpenAPI • Experience building scalable web applications and backend services • Proven experience designing distributed systems, including event-driven architectures, messaging systems, and data pipelines, on cloud infrastructure; AWS preferred • Track record of designing and evolving public or partner-facing APIs and integration platforms used by external customers at scale • Native agentic coding experience using tools such as Claude Code; ability to direct and review agent output confidently and demonstrate production work delivered this way • Track record of mentoring senior engineers and guiding technical direction across multiple teams • Strong judgment on security, reliability, and operability, including observability and incident learning • Clear, concise technical writing • Ability to influence executives, customers, partners, and engineers without direct authority and explain technical tradeoffs in business terms • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States • Must reside within the United States at the time of application and throughout employment • No visa sponsorship is provided • Preferred: experience building standards, protocols, or versioned contracts adopted by third parties • Preferred: hands-on experience designing MCP servers, agent tooling, or LLM-powered systems in production • Preferred: B2B SaaS experience serving enterprise or OEM customers with complex integration needs • Preferred: familiarity with commercial vehicles, fleet operations, dealer service, warranty, or telematics
