📋 Description

• Own technical direction for an area spanning several teams over a multi-year horizon • Raise engineers' level across the organisation through design and architecture reviews, pairing, and educational writing • Deliver large initiatives by developing the engineers who build them • Address cross-team problems that no single team owns, including un-escalated issues • Write design documents and technical standards used by other teams • Serve as the company's domain expert and make that expertise available • Prototype to resolve open questions using evidence • Write and review code, debug production issues, and carry the pager for owned systems • Identify and fix technical causes of organisational slowness • Partner with engineering managers and product on planning, sequencing, and stopping work when appropriate

🎯 Requirements

• 10 or more years of professional software engineering experience, several at senior level or beyond • Deep expertise in at least one domain such as distributed systems, databases and storage, networking, data engineering, or applied AI systems • Record of technical influence beyond your own team, with outcomes dependent on people you did not manage • Experience coaching engineers at organisational scale • Evidence of multi-year technical judgement and sustained impact of technical direction • Excellent written communication and design-document writing skills • Experience owning production systems, including operations, on-call, and incident response • Customer-centric approach and discipline to validate that designs improve users' work • Comfort with ambiguity and judgement to determine when something should not be built • Experience at a quickly scaling company where architecture evolved with growth (nice to have) • Experience with high-volume data pipelines, streaming systems, or telemetry and time-series data (nice to have) • Experience deploying machine learning or LLM systems to production (nice to have) • Experience working close to physical infrastructure and hardware failure considerations (nice to have) • Open-source contributions, published work, or domain talks (nice to have) • Must be authorized to work in the United States
