📋 Description

• Own the technical roadmap and author system designs for other engineers • Write, review, and optimize code across the issuing and processing stack • Drive initiatives improving reliability, latency, and cost of core processing engines • Partner with Product to translate requirements into designs across onboarding, issuing, digital wallets, authorization and clearing, transaction controls, and ledger • Mentor technical leads and influence stakeholders • Set success metrics that raise the engineering bar across the organization • Make decisions on data model changes, consistency guarantees, failure and degradation strategy, and blast-radius containment • Work on systems that authorize, clear, and settle transactions in real time • Collaborate with engineering leaders on operational excellence

🎯 Requirements

• 12+ years of hands-on engineering experience • Deep experience with real-time transactional systems operating under hard latency budgets • Experience owning a system at four nines or better • Strong experience with data consistency under concurrency, including idempotency, distributed transaction patterns, reconciliation, at-least-once and exactly-once delivery tradeoffs, and partial-write recovery • Experience writing system designs, defending them in review, and operating designed systems in production • Experience developing and scaling systems across multiple regions, including tested or executed failover • Experience developing and scaling microservices on modern cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS • Strong JVM fundamentals • Experience with or willingness to learn Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, Kafka, and AWS services • Master's degree in Software Engineering is a nice-to-have • Role may be performed remotely in the United States, only in one of Marqeta’s National locations
