📋 Description

• Own the technical vision and roadmap for Sezzle’s authentication and authorization platform, including an API auth gateway and identity services • Architect, design, and build scalable, highly available authentication services and gateway components primarily in Golang using AWS, RDS, and distributed patterns • Design and lead phased, zero-downtime migrations with rollback and safety mechanisms • Establish authentication and authorization standards, including OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, opaque and refresh tokens, mTLS, workload identity, RBAC, ABAC, and policy engines • Drive consistency and scalability across distributed microservices while maintaining performance, reliability, and edge-gateway latency budgets • Partner with Security and Compliance on fintech-grade security and regulatory requirements • Establish engineering best practices for observability, security, and CI/CD • Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response and postmortems • Mentor engineers and promote learning, innovation, and operational excellence • Collaborate cross-functionally to translate business goals into technical roadmaps and deliver results • Help establish effective AI-tooling practices for security-sensitive systems

🎯 Requirements

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant backend experience • Deployed significant changes to a production application within the past 30 days • Deep hands-on expertise in authentication and authorization systems, including OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, JWT, session-based authentication, token lifecycle management, RBAC, ABAC, and policy-as-code • Experience designing, building, or operating an API gateway or auth proxy at scale • Proven track record leading large-scale service extraction or migration with zero or minimal customer impact • Strong proficiency in Golang and experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs • Expertise with SQL-based RDBMS, including MySQL and PostgreSQL, and query/schema optimization at scale • Understanding of distributed systems patterns, including transactional outbox, event-driven architecture, and queues • Ability to influence decisions and lead complex technical initiatives across teams • Demonstrated current use of AI tooling such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or custom LLM integrations • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field (required) • Preferred: identity platforms and standards implementations such as Keycloak, Auth0, Okta, Ory, or in-house IdPs • Preferred: service mesh and edge technologies such as Envoy, Istio, mTLS, rate limiting, and WAF integration • Preferred: threat modeling, secure design review, and auth attack-vector knowledge • Preferred: observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or New Relic • Preferred: AWS cloud infrastructure, especially Aurora RDS for MySQL and Postgres • Preferred: fintech, payments, BNPL, or consumer lending experience and familiarity with PCI-DSS or SOC 2 • Preferred: CI/CD pipelines and containerized microservices using Docker and Kubernetes • Preferred: commercial APIs and platform infrastructure in high-growth environments • Preferred: technical leadership, reliability improvement, and engineering-organization scaling
