📋 Description

• Plan, guide, and control delivery of software development projects of varying size and scope • Provide leadership to software engineering teams delivering product enhancements and production support • Manage software engineers across multiple technologies and solution domains • Manage software design, development, and implementation against established specifications • Manage production support activities for products and services • Partner with Product Managers to ensure features fulfill business requirements • Evaluate project proposals and business concepts for development effort • Prioritize and allocate resources for projects and enhancements • Troubleshoot and resolve production and customer support issues • Manage competing tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment • Exercise independent judgment and manage conflict • Support software engineers’ professional development • Lead technology modernization, platform improvement, and engineering process transformation initiatives • Use data, engineering metrics, customer impact, and business value to prioritize work and make resource tradeoff decisions • Partner with Product Management, UX, Operations, and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused capabilities • Communicate technical risks, delivery progress, and recommendations to senior leaders

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience • Minimum of 1 additional year of experience related to the functional area • Minimum of 3 years of management experience with hiring, training, assigning work, and managing direct-report performance • Software development experience in Java, web services, system integrations, and relational database platforms • Experience implementing significant systems and process changes • Ability to partner with other managers to accomplish objectives • Ability to prioritize projects based on quantifiable business benefits and available resources • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks, problems, and projects • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Excellent interpersonal skills • For remote roles, high engagement in virtual environments, including maintaining camera presence during meetings • Preferred: full-stack development experience with .NET/C#/Java • Preferred: experience leading technology modernization, platform improvement, or engineering process transformation • Preferred: familiarity with AI-assisted software development practices • Preferred: understanding of API-first design, system integrations, cloud delivery, CI/CD, DevOps, observability, and production reliability • Preferred: experience using data, engineering metrics, customer impact, and business value for prioritization and resource tradeoffs • Preferred: experience partnering with Product Management, UX, Operations, and business stakeholders • Preferred: ability to frame complex technical and business problems and communicate tradeoffs • Preferred: experience developing engineering talent and building high-ownership teams • Preferred: executive communication and stakeholder influence skills • Preferred: healthcare technology, sensitive data environments, HIPAA/PCI, HL7, or FHIR experience • Employees have access to sensitive personal information and must follow Information Security and Privacy Policies • VSP Vision maintains a drug-free workplace and performs pre-employment substance abuse testing
