📋 Description

• Partner with product managers, scientific and clinical stakeholders, internal stakeholders, and development and support teams to translate requirements into integrations, services, and solutions for scaling Beacon's data platform • Implement features with attention to data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability • Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases • Solicit and incorporate input and help the team align on technical decisions • Ensure correctness when data moves between systems, including completeness, idempotency, and predictable behavior under partial failure • Improve operational robustness and ease of use of the Datastore and its services through documentation, tools, and dashboards • Design and scale backend data infrastructure involving PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs • Lead the design and integration of services and components for data and event processing • Own pipelines delivering dataset snapshots into the warehouse • Collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs supporting clinical studies and digital health products

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience • At least 2 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications • Strong proficiency in SQL • Production experience with PostgreSQL as an application database • Experience writing and tuning queries by hand and reasoning about schema design, indexes, and query plans • Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing using Kafka or an equivalent such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, Amazon Kinesis, or another cloud-based equivalent • Proficiency in Julia or Python • Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments • Familiarity with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and/or Helm • Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js) • Collaborative mindset • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Self-directed approach • Track record of thriving in hybrid or fully remote teams
