📋 Description

• Serve as a senior feature lead and full-stack software engineer • Architect, build, and deploy new web capabilities and RESTful APIs • Lead feature development for dynamic hydrographs, NOAA Atlas 15 precipitation frequency displays, watershed delineation tools, and Flood Inundation Mapping visualization tools • Design scalable microservices in the NWS Enterprise Cloud AWS environment using AWS Fargate, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, and S3 • Architect, implement, and optimize high-throughput RESTful APIs and OGC-compliant spatial data services • Build mobile-responsive, accessible NWPS web user interfaces • Interface backend data services with the Government-managed HydroVIS platform running Esri ArcGIS Enterprise on Linux • Build automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing harnesses • Enforce test coverage and static linting thresholds before CI/CD promotion • Conduct peer code reviews for internal developers and external community contributors • Mentor mid-level staff • Prepare technical release artifacts for NOAA Change Control Board approvals • Collaborate on community-driven code contribution workflows

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related computational field • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in full-stack web application development and API engineering • Proven track record designing, building, and launching public-facing RESTful APIs, cloud microservices, and interactive geospatial web applications • Demonstrated experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery cadences • Experience managing merge/pull requests in VLab GitLab or GitHub • Experience integrating automated CI/CD testing gates • Proficiency in Python, including FastAPI, Flask, Django, and PEP 8 • Proficiency in Go, Node.js, and/or C/C++ • Expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript • Experience with React, Vue, or modern ES6+ vanilla JavaScript • Expertise in HTML5/CSS3 • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 accessibility standards • Deep experience with RESTful API design and OpenAPI specifications • Experience with OGC web standards, GeoJSON, Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFFs (COGs), Zarr, and NetCDF formats • Direct experience with AWS Fargate/ECS, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, and API Gateway • Proficiency with Docker and Terraform Infrastructure as Code • Proficiency with Pytest, Jest, and static analysis/security tools including Ruff, Flake8, Black, and Dependabot
