📋 Description

• Design and scale high-throughput, low-latency backend systems powering Fetch’s advertising platform • Own architecture across ad selection, targeting, pacing, delivery, attribution, and measurement services • Design for reliability, resilience, graceful degradation, observability, SLOs, and alerting • Evolve event-driven and data-intensive architectures across stores, streaming, messaging, caching, and real-time processing • Set backend, reliability, and performance standards adopted by multiple teams • Lead refactoring, migration, and system-health initiatives • Define and deliver multi-quarter initiatives shaping Ads and Platform direction • Solve complex reliability, performance, and scalability problems spanning multiple teams • Partner with Ads, Product, Platform, Data, and ML teams • Mentor senior engineers, lead technical design reviews, and raise engineering standards

🎯 Requirements

• Proven track record designing, building, and operating distributed backend systems at significant production scale • Deep understanding of partitioning, replication, consistency, caching, concurrency, asynchronous processing, failure isolation, and coordination • Strong track record diagnosing performance and scaling problems across applications, databases, caches, queues, networks, and infrastructure • Expertise in API design, service boundaries, event-driven architectures, streaming, messaging, distributed stores, and caching • Experience owning architecture for complex distributed systems, including scalability planning, performance optimization, failure modes, and long-term evolution • Experience building highly reliable production systems with metrics, tracing, structured logging, alerting, capacity planning, and incident response • Experience making architectural decisions involving scalability, reliability, latency, consistency, operational cost, complexity, and developer productivity • Ability to translate ambiguous product and business requirements into robust backend designs • Org-level influence beyond direct ownership, including standards adopted by multiple teams and mentoring senior engineers • Track record defining and delivering multi-quarter, cross-team initiatives • Experience leading significant refactoring, migration, or system-health work • Fluency in Kubernetes, event streaming, distributed data stores, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability tooling • Preferred: experience with advertising, ad-serving, auction, marketplace, recommendation, or real-time decisioning systems • Preferred: familiarity with targeting, pacing, bidding, frequency management, attribution, incrementality, and measurement • Preferred: experience with very high request rates, strict tail latency, multi-region systems, ML inference, ranking, recommendation, targeting, or personalization • Preferred: prior Staff-level experience driving architectural direction
