📋 Description

• Lead and oversee the design and preparation of substation physical design drawings for distribution substations from 12kV to 69kV and potentially transmission substations above 69kV • Prepare substation one-line and three-line diagrams • Prepare station general arrangements and sections • Prepare electrical details, grounding plans and details, conduit plans and details • Design control cubicle layouts, sections, cable tray, lighting, and grounding • Prepare low-voltage AC panels, lightning protection, and illumination plans and details • Lead engineering studies including AC load, illumination, grounding, and lightning shielding • Develop bills of materials based on design criteria • Coordinate with protection and controls, civil/structural, and drafting disciplines • Support client meetings, technical discussions, and project planning • Participate in site visits and constructability reviews • Interpret and incorporate vendor information into design deliverables • Apply client standards • Perform and ensure QA/QC processes are followed on design packages • Ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, NEC, and utility standards • Continuously improve engineering, technical, and professional knowledge and performance • Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers

🎯 Requirements

• BS in Engineering, preferably electrical with Power Focus • 8+ years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilities • 8+ years of experience working with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and MicroStation • Advanced user of Microsoft Word and Excel • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tool • Familiarity with substation design standards and practices (IEEE, NESC, utility specs) • Ability to manage multiple projects and mentor junior staff • Experience leading substation projects modelled in 3D using Autodesk Inventor • Familiarity with substation grounding studies and CDEGS • Familiarity with Agi32 illumination software • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Strong initiative and leadership qualities • Ability to work productively from home without supervision
