📋 Description

• Ensure the resilience and availability of Kohl’s systems and applications • Collaborate with development teams and contribute to architectural designs • Conduct risk assessments and design for failure • Implement robust monitoring and failover mechanisms • Drive error budget and Service Level Objective (SLO) adoption across products • Lead incident response efforts, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures • Establish operational excellence practices through automation and process improvements • Drive reliability, observability, and efficiency across product teams within an assigned domain • Identify repeated toil and opportunities for automation and risk reduction • Participate in an on-call rotation for production incidents • Conduct blameless retrospectives and root-cause analyses • Proactively identify failures using chaos engineering, edge cases, failure modes, and design reviews • Advise on capacity planning and continuously assess system behavior and consumption • Work with product managers to prioritize reliability best practices using SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets • Mentor and assist engineers on the team • Complete additional assigned tasks

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in MIS, Computer Science or related field • 4+ years of experience in software development • Strong programming skills in one or more of Java, Python, Go, or Node.js • In-depth knowledge of systems architecture, operating system internals, and network fundamentals • In-depth knowledge of application design patterns, event-driven architecture, database schemas, and testing strategies • Experience with multi-region application troubleshooting and performance tuning • Working experience with IBM Mainframe, including TSO/ISPF, JCL, batch job scheduling, CICS transaction processing, and RACF security • Working experience with one cloud platform: GCP, AWS, or Azure • Working experience with monitoring techniques and tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, and tracing • Ability to perform listed accountabilities and essential functions • Ability to comply with company policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, dress code, attendance, scheduling, and training requirements • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and respond appropriately to direction • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while accomplishing multiple tasks within established timeframes • Ability to use a personal computer for communication and report preparation • Ability to plan, prioritize, and monitor activities across business units • Ability to complete or oversee assigned projects in a timely manner
