📋 Description

• Lead and grow a machine learning engineering team through career development, conflict management, mentoring, feedback, goal setting, and hiring. • Identify and address gaps in team capabilities and processes. • Partner with tech leads to pressure-test ideas, prioritize hypotheses, allocate compute and headcount, and manage experimentation portfolios. • Balance near-term model improvement commitments with longer-term research bets and reallocate resources as evidence arrives. • Establish rigorous evaluation standards, including rolling evaluations and validation that offline results predict online behavior. • Drive independent experimental workstreams toward end-to-end evaluation, release candidates, and production shipment. • Work directly with Risk partners on measured model-performance commitments while they own thresholds, rules, and merchant decision application. • Operate autonomously to set team direction based on measured performance and experiments. • Partner with platform and infrastructure teams on feature systems, training pipelines, and experimentation tooling. • Represent team results to engineering leadership, Risk leaders, and the wider company.

🎯 Requirements

• Roughly 5+ years in machine learning, data science, or ML-adjacent software engineering. • At least 3 years of people management experience, including career development, conflict resolution, and building healthy, high-performing teams. • Genuine depth in at least one of engineering and applied statistics, with working competence in the other. • Technical ability to engage with production models, code, evaluation pipelines, and statistical results. • Demonstrated ability to lead work under uncertainty, set direction, change course based on evidence, and communicate decisions effectively. • Excellent written and verbal communication, including strong document-writing ability. • Ability to recognize priorities and evaluate outcome impact autonomously in a fast-moving environment. • Commitment to correctness, reproducibility, reliability, and high-quality work.
