📋 Description

• Serve as a subject-matter expert for database architecture and performance • Guide engineers through complex or ambiguous technical problems • Set technical approaches for scalable data solutions with Product, Engineering, and Site Reliability stakeholders • Drive cross-functional projects from design through delivery • Identify and address upstream and downstream impacts • Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the team • Shape adoption of Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps practices • Review code and database changes for systemic risk and performance • Lead efforts to reduce technical debt • Evaluate emerging technologies and guide technology adoption • Interpret database health and performance data from Splunk, Datadog, and Grafana • Proactively identify and address risks before incidents occur

🎯 Requirements

• Advanced, wide-ranging experience with database systems • Deep expertise designing logical and physical data models, schema design, and data relationships • Demonstrated ability to tune queries and indexes and establish database performance standards • Strong command of data security practices, including encryption, access controls, and auditing • Experience troubleshooting complex issues in high-availability systems • Ability to plan for data growth and scale infrastructure • Ability to influence peers and cross-functional partners • Strong command of modern development practices and Agile methodologies • Ability to communicate technical direction, trade-offs, and risk clearly • Comfort working through evolving, ambiguous requirements • Proactive approach to solving cross-team problems • 7+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server in production • Expertise in schema and data model design, normalization, partitioning, and indexing strategy for OLTP workloads • Advanced proficiency in performance tuning, T-SQL, stored procedure optimization, execution plan analysis, and query tuning at scale • Experience managing and troubleshooting SQL Server databases at terabyte scale, including tables with billions of rows and sustained throughput exceeding 100,000 transactions per second • Ability to diagnose and resolve production capacity and contention issues, including lock/latch contention, TempDB performance, and transaction management • Experience designing for horizontal and vertical scalability • Familiarity with NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB is a plus • Experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS/Aurora or MongoDB Atlas is a plus
