📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient software solutions for Baylor Genetics’ bioinformatic pipelines • Create and optimize data models for assembly, mapping, variant calling, and variant annotation algorithms • Develop and optimize ETL processes using APIs • Analyze and optimize SQL queries and database performance • Contribute to database schema design and review sessions • Develop interactive dashboards and automated reports using BI tools such as Azure Pipelines, Teams Power Automate, email, and Nextflow • Collaborate with data analysts, business users, clinical reviewers, laboratory personnel, and software developers to scope requirements and deliver software integrations • Integrate disparate data sources and maintain data consistency, accuracy, reliability, flexibility, and maintainability • Conduct rigorous testing and automate testing suites using pytest, doctest, and Azure Pipelines • Create comprehensive inline documentation, wikis, README files, installation instructions, implementation guidance, and trace mappings • Provide support and maintenance for developed solutions • Manage individual projects, adhere to timelines, and communicate when project scopes fluctuate • Perform other advanced job-related duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics or a related field; Master’s degree preferred • Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development • Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable software solutions based on diverse user feature needs • Proven track record of implementing production ready software solutions from scratch • Deep knowledge and expertise in at least two programming languages: Python, Perl, R, Bash, Java, C++, or Groovy • Proficiency with SQL Server, NoSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, and ElasticSearch • Proficiency in Agile frameworks and CI/CD practices using Git • Object-oriented programming and standard software design practices • Experience building performant, maintainable, tested, production-ready software packages from scratch • Solid understanding and habitual practice of unit and integration testing • Proficiency designing and building APIs and microservices from scratch • Solid understanding of package management practices such as PIP and Conda • Knowledge of containerization using Docker and Singularity • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Ability to translate complex business needs into technical solutions and work independently • Good communication skills and flexibility to reach out to stakeholders and SMEs • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for multidisciplinary collaboration • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies, learn new tools, and implement best practices • Experience managing individual projects and adhering to timelines • Prior experience or domain knowledge collaborating with laboratory scientists, computational biologists, or clinical reviewers is a nice-to-have • Knowledge of Azure is a bonus • Familiarity with Linux OS, HPC clusters, SLURM, Kubernetes, GCP, Azure, workflow/orchestration tools, Nextflow, Airflow, or Snakemake is a plus, but not essential
