📋 Description

• Own the health, performance, and security of Liberty’s SQL Server/Azure SQL data warehouse infrastructure • Administer, monitor, and tune database environments, including indexing, query performance, backup and recovery, capacity planning, and patching • Build, maintain, and monitor ETL/ELT pipelines from agency management, carrier, finance, HR/payroll, and other business systems • Design and maintain data normalization, transformation, and modeling logic • Manage schema changes, data quality checks, job orchestration, and recurring data loads • Troubleshoot pipeline failures and data discrepancies • Define and enforce data access controls, retention practices, and documentation standards • Collaborate with IT and comply with security, change management, access provisioning, and architecture standards • Partner with BI/Analytics to expose clean, modeled datasets for dashboards, applications, and APIs • Administer portions of Liberty’s Microsoft Azure subscription, including organization, Entra ID access control, cost management, tagging, naming, and security configuration • Own Azure infrastructure supporting Liberty OS and Liberty Aura, including provisioning, monitoring, patching, and capacity planning • Lead decommissioning of legacy systems and databases, including migration, archival, retention validation, and retirement of orphaned Azure resources • Design, build, and maintain internal applications and automations using AI-assisted development tools • Translate business needs into internal tools, integrations, and automations • Apply code review, version control, testing, and documentation practices • Evaluate AI coding tools and workflows and share practices with the team • Build and maintain integrations between the data warehouse and internal business applications • Follow data handling, security, and compliance guardrails for production, sensitive, and regulated data • Report through a dotted-line relationship to Technology Operations

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years of experience administering SQL Server or a comparable relational database platform in a production environment • Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehouse or data mart architectures • Hands-on experience administering a Microsoft Azure subscription, including resource and subscription organization, Entra ID role-based access control, cost management, and platform security configuration • Strong SQL skills, including query optimization, indexing strategy, and performance troubleshooting • Practical experience using modern AI coding assistants or agents in a real development workflow • Working proficiency in Python, C#, or JavaScript/TypeScript • Familiarity with Git and standard software development lifecycle practices • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to own systems end to end • Experience migrating and decommissioning legacy systems or databases, including data migration, archival, and retention-compliant shutdown • Clear written and verbal communication skills • Preferred: experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance or another cloud data platform • Preferred: experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Bicep, ARM, or Terraform • Preferred: experience with Tableau or another modern BI/reporting tool • Preferred: experience in insurance, brokerage, or financial services, or with Applied Epic or AMS360 • Preferred: experience with MCP servers or similar agentic/AI tool-calling architectures • Preferred: exposure to data governance or regulatory compliance requirements • Preferred: experience mentoring developers on AI-assisted development practices • Must meet applicable state insurance licensing requirements where the position requires a state insurance license
