📋 Description

• Set technical direction for backend development and design and build scalable, reliable web application systems • Direct and review AI coding agents’ output while maintaining engineering quality • Drive adoption of new languages, tools, and agentic development practices across the team • Write code impacting customers and future product lines • Partner cross-functionally to influence product direction and work directly with customers • Understand the healthcare claims and payments domain • Build production-grade Java, Scala, and/or Rust services; contribute standards and mentor others • Serve as the backend voice in cross-team planning and support cross-functional execution • Contribute to complex in-browser application development, ensuring extensibility, scalability, and security • Balance customer-facing features with technical debt cleanup • Architect and implement applications applying ML techniques to large volumes of data • Design systems for performant and reliable application delivery • Bring agentic engineering practices into day-to-day team work and help adoption

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of experience across backend programming; additional full-stack experience highly desired • Proven experience designing and shipping customer-facing web application products • Meaningful experience with Java or Scala; Rust highly desired • Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems on cloud services at scale, with high throughput and high availability • Ability to write Technical Design Documents that translate ambiguous product intent into concrete backend design • Product- and user-driven mindset • Strong cross-functional collaboration with engineering peers, senior PM, ML/DS partners, and leadership • Pragmatic approach with strong systems instinct and root-cause analysis • Hands-on experience with agentic engineering tools and workflows in production • Experience reading and understanding complex code, owning code quality, and improving it • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a high-growth, high-stakes environment • Comfort with complexity and curiosity to define the path forward • BS or MS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
