Texas Windstorm Insurance Association is a not-for-profit insurance entity that provides windstorm and hail insurance to homeowners and commercial property owners along the Texas coast who are unable to obtain such coverage in the regular market due to the risk of catastrophic hurricanes. Established under Texas law, TWIA administers policies, claims handling, payments, agent support and public reporting as the insurer of last resort for wind and hail exposure in designated coastal areas.

📋 Description

• Prepare, design, and implement software for moderate to complex custom-developed applications or Guidewire products • Integrate applications with other custom or commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications • Participate in creating and maintaining development plans for custom software, Guidewire products, and application integrations • Estimate level of effort and elapsed time to design, implement, and test software • Document, implement, and unit test code based on approved designs • Provide periodic status updates on deliverables, level of effort, and completion timeframes • Troubleshoot production software problems • Develop and implement a personal training plan with manager input • Formally document designs using established documentation standards • Plan and implement production rollouts of software upgrades • Collaborate with external consultants and developers on large-scale projects • Guide business department personnel on the technical and business capabilities of software applications • Work across the full development lifecycle with engineers and business stakeholders

🎯 Requirements

• Four-year college degree, preferably in CS, engineering or other technical field, or equivalent experience • 1+ years software development experience • Familiarity with formal software development processes and best practices • Familiarity with software package selection processes • Hands-on experience as a software application developer using different application software architectures (e.g. MVC, client server, etc.) • Experience coding with Java, J2EE, GOSU or .NET or other object-oriented technologies • Implementation experience in at least one full life-cycle implementations • Experience translating business requirements into concise technical design documents • Knowledge of database constructs and experience with SQL • Experience writing business rules, interpreting XMLs and making user interface design changes • Demonstrated ability to design, configure, and test software products • Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to actively listen, problem solve, and communicate effectively with both technical and business users • Demonstrated experience working both as an individual contributor and as part of a team • Preferred: Graduate degree in technical discipline • Preferred: Familiarity with agile methodology • Preferred: Experience with MS SQL Server • Preferred: Property and casualty insurance experience • Preferred: Guidewire Insurance Suite • Preferred: Any IT certification • Proficiency in some of: Java, Java EE, Java Web Services (SOAP) and/or RESTful, Subversion, Git, Design Patterns, Guidewire, .Net/C#, JBoss ESB
