📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership for the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of complex back-end applications and services • Plan and execute technical roadmaps for new and existing projects with minimal guidance • Lead technical discussions and contribute to architecture, system design, API design, and technology selection decisions • Design and evaluate scalable, maintainable, secure, and reliable technical solutions • Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures • Partner with product, design, engineering, and cross-functional team members to translate product and business needs into technical solutions • Participate in planning sessions and technical discussions with clients, partners, and stakeholders • Break down complex or ambiguous technical problems and provide clear technical direction • Reduce technical ambiguity and debt through documentation, refactoring, automated testing, and improvements to engineering practices • Establish and promote engineering standards for code quality, testing, maintainability, security, performance, and reliability • Perform code reviews and provide technical guidance and actionable feedback to engineers • Mentor engineers through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical leadership • Identify technical risks and dependencies and recommend mitigations • Communicate about systems, architectural decisions, constraints, and project history for demonstrations, proposals, and client-facing activities • Present technical concepts and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences • Participate in technical interviews and evaluations of engineering candidates • Periodically travel to collaborate with and present to clients, partners, and stakeholders

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of software engineering experience • Relevant years of experience may be substituted for education • Expert-level proficiency in back-end software engineering • Experience providing technical leadership on complex software development efforts • Extensive experience developing production applications and services using Java and Spring Boot • Experience designing, developing, and integrating REST APIs and microservices • Experience designing and implementing scalable, maintainable, and reliable software solutions • Experience providing technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers • Preferred: experience developing applications, services, or automation using Python • Preferred: experience with PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch • Preferred: experience designing and supporting event-driven architectures • Preferred: experience developing and deploying applications in AWS • Preferred: experience with AWS services, including ECS and Lambda • Preferred: experience with Docker • Preferred: experience with Terraform • Preferred: experience with GitLab, including source control and CI/CD pipelines • Preferred: experience with Maven and POM management • Preferred: experience with Python dependency management using Poetry • Preferred: experience with automated testing, code reviews, debugging, and modern software engineering practices • Preferred: experience designing or supporting distributed systems and microservices architectures • Preferred: experience with application security, observability, performance optimization, and production troubleshooting • Preferred: experience delivering software within federal government or public-sector environments • Preferred: experience supporting technical solutioning, technical demonstrations, or client-facing engineering discussions
