📋 Description

• Own the health, output, and trajectory of an engineering pod of approximately 6–8 engineers • Own pod priorities, ownership, expectations, planning, retrospectives, and follow-through • Remove blockers and keep engineers focused on high-leverage work • Be accountable for delivery, identify project risks, and intervene when work is stalled, poorly scoped, or under-owned • Conduct weekly 1:1s and provide continuous, specific feedback • Manage performance, support growth, write reviews, and address performance gaps • Own onboarding, prepare meaningful work before day one, and accelerate new-hire ramp-up • Maintain accurate documentation, runbooks, and ownership boundaries • Partner with Product Management on prioritization, requirements, effort, and value • Represent engineering tradeoffs to non-engineering stakeholders and escalate persistent misalignment • Partner with the Technical Lead on architecture, quality, technical risk, and technical decision ownership • Maintain technical depth, contribute as an IC when appropriate, and help improve incident outcomes • Assess pod staffing and seniority mix, interview candidates, support hiring, transfers, and succession planning • Report pod health and delivery risks to the Head of Engineering • Communicate cross-pod dependencies and tradeoffs proactively

🎯 Requirements

• Ideally 5+ engineers managed directly on a product or platform team • Experience shipping production software; ability to read a PR, evaluate a design doc, and assess estimates • Track record of improving predictable delivery under management • Fluency with modern AI product development, including evals, experiment design, dataset curation, and AI-assisted engineering workflows • Comfort with ambiguity and high-complexity domains • Strong product partnership instincts and ability to challenge weak requirements • Crisp written communication • Directness with care when giving feedback • Operational and reliability knowledge, including SLOs, incident response, and postmortems • Keen eye for security risk • Experience hiring and onboarding in a growing organization • Technical familiarity with TypeScript, React, Vite, Node/Express, Docker, GraphQL/Apollo, Postgres/Aurora, Turborepo/PNPM, AWS, Terraform, Pulumi, Buildkite, Datadog, CloudWatch, and Sentry
